Collins Home is Celebrating Our Teens Amazing Accomplishments

It's an exciting time for the Collins teenagers as they are experiencing amazing accomplishments in their lives. Over the next few months, we will be super busy as we celebrate and navigate these upcoming milestones.

Hooray! The Time Has Come...

We have one teen turning 16, and we are so excited for this special young lady, whom we’ve watched blossom from a shy 8-year-old to a strong, independent 15-year-old…about to be SIXTEEN; wow, it doesn’t seem real!

We have a 16-year-old about to turn 17 and is actively looking for a part-time job. He is also counting down the days until he can get his driver’s license instead of his permit.

Plus, we have two teenagers about to turn 18 and are graduating from high school this year. One young man has already received an acceptance notice from one of the two colleges he applied to.

Two of our teens have earned the privilege to have cell phones.

This May Surprise You...

Believe it or not, our kids do not typically have cell phones. Of course, this results in the constant litany of, “but all of my friends have one, why can’t I?” The answer to that is, ‘you can; you just have to have good grades, a good attitude, and be able to pay for your phone service through a part-time job.’

As you can imagine, the younger children think “it’s not fair” that the teens get to stay up a little later than they do, have cell phones, and drive. Whereas we assure them that their time too will come as they get older.

“I’m glad we had the times together just to laugh and sing a song, seems like we just got started and then before you know it, the times we had together were gone.” Dr. Seuss

It Warms Our Hearts to See...

Each of our children and adolescents has their own distinct personalities that we are blessed to watch grow and develop as they experience milestones, security, nurturing, love, support, and opportunities.

It’s not easy being a teenager. Peer and social pressures, schoolwork, worries about the future, and other stressors make growing pains real. Add an unstable family situation and the emotional tolls tally up even quicker.

So, it is such a blessing to see their progress and success, and it makes our Collins Home family of houseparents, tutors, and teachers proud.
